Grab a jab in Knowsley now – new drop-ins announced

The local NHS is encouraging as many Knowsley residents as possible to ‘grab a jab’, as the health service enters its final push to protect the country against Covid-19.

This comes as the Government has confirmed the relaxation of current COVID-19 rules is from 19 July 2021, and also that from 16 August 2021 anyone who has received both vaccinations will no longer be required to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone with COVID-19, or to quarantine after foreign travel to Amber list countries.

As part of this, the NHS vaccination bus will be returning to Knowsley over the coming weeks, with the aim of getting as many residents as possible vaccinated as quickly as possible, ahead of the summer holidays.

Anyone aged 18 or over is eligible to receive a vaccination at a local drop-in clinic now – with no appointment needed.

Dianne Johnson, Chief Executive of NHS Knowsley CCG, the organisation which is responsible for co-ordinating the local vaccination programme said:

“Nearly 80% of adults in Knowsley have already had at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, which is really encouraging.

“We now want to reach those who haven’t yet come forward, and also encourage people who have reached eight weeks since their first dose to have a second, which we know is really necessary in protecting people against the Delta variant.”

She adds, “The easing of all COVID restrictions from 19th July and the rise in cases locally means that it’s more important than ever that people are protected by being fully vaccinated.”

Dr Andrew Pryce, a local GP and Chair of NHS Knowsley CCG said:

We’ve seen really good take-up of the COVID-19 vaccine locally, which is so important for helping protect ourselves and the people around us, particularly as restrictions continue to ease. However, you only get the full benefit of vaccination after both doses so we really want to remind people of that.

“We know that lots of people will be keen to get away this summer, once the school holidays begin
. Whether that’s here in the UK or abroad, having both jabs is the best way for people to be able to do that safely and start getting their lives back to “normal”, as well as being the best of way of protecting themselves and their loved ones against the virus.”
