Mental Health Self-help Directory

Mental Health Self-help Directory

Your local specialist mental health, learning disability and community services provider has developed an online self-help directory to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.

5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has compiled the self-help directory with input from service users and carers.

The directory brings together in one place a health and wellbeing a-z guide, mental health resources, useful helplines and an index of local services across each of the boroughs the Trust serves – Knowsley, Halton, St Helens, Warrington and Wigan.

The directory was launched at the Trust’s annual Festival of Arts on World Mental Health Day, 10 October, by Chairman Bernard Pilkington.

Bernard said: “This online directory will be a very valuable resource to help you find out what local services can support you to look after your mental health and wellbeing.”

The directory is just one of the initiatives the Trust has come up with to help raise awareness of mental health issues in order to reduce stigma and encourage people to seek support.

The Trust is also running training courses for local non-healthcare groups such as housing and employment agencies, local authorities and police, with the focus on understanding the mental health issues in the local population and what support is available, including how to help in a mental health crisis and where to guide people for professional support.

Bernard said: “Mental ill health can affect anyone. Each year, approximately one in four adults experience at least one diagnosable mental health problem. Unfortunately due to a lack of knowledge of mental ill health, some people delay seeking help and support. We want to reassure our local residents that help and support is out there, and a good place to start would be our mental health self-help directory.”
