Knowsley Launches a New Young People’s Community Eating Disorder Service

Eating disorders are a range of conditions that can affect someone physically, psychologically and socially. They are serious mental illnesses and include anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder. It is vital that children and young people with eating disorders and their families and carers can access effective help quickly.

The service that Knowsley CCG has co-commissioned with our partner CCG’s will offer evidence-based, high-quality care and support.

5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and leading national eating disorder charity Beat will provide this new service. It will cover Knowsley, Halton, St Helens and Warrington.

The service will provide assessment, treatment and support for young people with eating disorders and their families/carers. It aims to promote the early detection and treatment of eating disorders through a combination of one-to-one support and family therapy, along with support from a qualified dietician.
