Knowsley Practices - Supporting Carers in Knowsley

Congratulations to two Knowsley GP Practices, Aston - Manor Farm and Tarbock Medical Centre, who have been awarded the Supporting Carers Certificate.

The successful practices evidenced good practice as outlined in the Supporting Carers; 10 Steps to Better Practice Guide. Key to good practice is recognising carers as partners, working to identify carers who use the practice and making sure they are signposted to services to support them.

Many people looking after someone often don't know where to find help. They may be caring for someone who needs help due to disability, long term illness, and the consequences of ageing, learning disabilities, mental ill health or substance misuse. Knowsley Carers Centre provides a range of services to support carers including advocacy, information, benefits advice, holistic therapies, counselling and social groups.

By embedding good practice as outlined in the guidance, everyone working in primary care can help to ensure that carers receive the support they need. The work that carers do helps people to continue living as independently as possible in the community so it’s important that they are acknowledged for what they do and are given appropriate support.

The certificates were presented by Muriel O’Hanlon, Chair of Carer’s Vision and a trustee of Knowsley Carers Centre and Dr Andy Pryce, Chair of Knowsley Clinical Commissioning Group.

Jan Box, Health Link at Knowsley Carers Centre, delivers carer awareness training to practice staff and provides support to achieve the Supporting Carers Certificate. If you are a practice and would like to know more please contact
